50 First Dates Trailer Analysis

50 First Dates is a romantic comedy. This is because it has all the features that a romantic film has but also has parts of comedy involved, which people would expect of a film that Adam Sandler stars in as he is known for his comedy films such as grown ups and bedtime stories.

This film is about two main characters, Henry and Lucy. It was pretty much love at first site, until he realized something about her wasn't right.. she had short term memory lost and therefore wouldn't remember who he was so it was his mission to make her fall in love with him everyday.

At the beginning of the trailer, it starts off with non diegetic sound of the narrator introducing the characters, this is really effective because it gives the audience an insight on who the characters are before even watching the film but at the same time it doesn't give too much information away to a point where it would be pointless that they wouldn't want to watch the film. The person in the background that is speaking also has a very humorous voice, therefore shows that the film isn't going to be serious and it will have some comedy too it. The music in the background at the beginning of the film also sets a very positive vibe as its upbeat and it really emphasis when the two characters connect. The music suddenly stops and an old man starts talking, this is the start of the comedy part as he makes a comment where a lot of the audience would find it funny and it is just appropriate for the scene to make things less awkward. The camera angle that is going from shot to shot is effective as it shows both the facials expressions and shows the audience clearly that they are both very fond of each other.

In the next scene we see all the different clips of them hanging out and doing different activities together, this is effective because they way it switches from scene to scene and giving different camera angles so the audience can see all different points of view is a convention for films with this kind of setting as it doesn't give away too much but it does give away a lot of information that is good for the audience purposes as it means they get to see a lot of clips in a little bit of time and then it will get them excited for the full film to be released and attract them to the cinema. One of the best scenes out of the trailer is the part where the narrator is talking in the background and uses the phrase "the only problem is" as at this point the audience doesn't know that she has memory loss and therefore they just thought this was going to be a easy love story where they fell in love. The camera shot here is very effective as has both main characters in shot and this means that we can easily see both of there facial expressions and how they react to one another. The sound effect when Lucy hits Henry when they get out of bed is very effective as it is loud and sounds very real. This will make the audience feel sorry for Henry as they know that he has done nothing bad but is getting punished for it.

Towards the end of the trailer, we see a part where Henry tries to use a penguin to get Lucy's attention, however this didn't end up in the way that they expected and then it turned into a funny moment in the trailer, this shows the audience the kind of humor that will be expected in the film and that it isn't all about being serious trying to win back the woman of his dreams. Although the sound effect of the penguin getting squished sounded really loud so a lot of people would expect the animal to of died and this would of been a negative part of the film, however it was fine they just made it look like he was a little bit wind swept, this would of been a main part for the audience that they would of found effective as not a lot of people would of wanted to see the penguin being squished in such a positive vibe of the film.

Throughout the film, the camera angles are really good. This is because most of the time it is focused on both of the characters at the same time. this means that we as the audience get to see the significance of what they are both doing and instead of focusing on one character at a time we are able to see what they are both doing. At the points that we are only seeing one of them at the time, it means we get to see a large sum from only one point of view and then afterwards can compare that to the other characters point of view. This means through the whole film we get to see a range of different views from different camera angles.
