Iron Man Trailer Analysis

Iron man is an action film. This is seen in the first few seconds of the film as it is based outside of an city involving very fast cars/trucks and the background includes very upbeat music which would hint which type of genre the film is going to be. This is a good way of drawing in the right type of audience as if people saw the beginning of the trailer not realizing that this is going to be an action film then they can click off straight away and don't have to go through the process of watching the whole film to realize it isn't their type of genre. A few seconds after they characters get out of the car we start to see explosives, this is the biggest indicator that the whole film is going to involve explosions, crashes, fights etc. This is what people would want to be noticing as soon as they click on the trailer as that is what a action film mostly always includes therefore this shows that it is going to have the conventions of a action genre.

As the trailer gets to around 0.30 seconds, this is where the majority of the conventions start to really show, and this is effective as at the moment there is no story behind what is going on as all we have seen is a man drinking and talking and then suddenly a load of explosions coming out of nowhere. This means that this will catch the audiences attention as they would want to watch the film to see what happens overall and to get the proper storyline instead of just parts. In this part of the trailer, the camera angles really capture the moment, by this I mean the camera moves round quickly but effectively, as it moves quick enough for us to see everything going on at one time but then at the same time it also gives us a glance of the explosions happening and people getting hurt and nothing looks like it is getting rushed in this scene. Then at the end of this scene we see the main character get blown over and hurt and then suddenly turns into a blank screen for a few seconds, this is effective on the audience as it sets a tense mood and they would be wondering questions like why did this happen? what's going to happen next? is he dead?

In the next scene, we hear somebody talking over the top, which is a very deep manly voice. This is effective because it may make the audience wonder if this is a good or bad guy that is involved? and overall they are probably just want to know the full storyline. The next clip shown is the man covered in blood and bruises, this is very effective because it shows the audience how hurt that he actually is and what's happened. This would kind of hint to them that he could be a bad guy or he may be a good guy that got caught in a bad crowd.

At 0:57, it shows the main character making eye contact and being flirty with a woman at the airport, this may indicate that there is going to be a love interest also involved in the film, this could go down many different routes and many different things could happen in the storyline if a woman gets involved. The camera shot is a back and fourth shot, this means that the camera shows us whoever is talking between the two. this is effective because it shows the audience the facial expressions of both of them and how they react to one another. The camera then switches to a birds eye view as we see where the main character lives, this is effective also as it shows the audience how wealthy he is but also at the same time shows how complicated his life can be with all the equipment he has to look after and has to guard for his own safe being.

The quote "I want to protect the people" shows that Iron Man is actually a good person and he is not trying to be a bad person or get into the bad crowd. this is effective towards the audience because it will make them more intrigued to watch because they will want to see what different things that iron man will get up to and what adventures he goes on.

The next scene is very fast paced camera movements on many different things that are happening, this is because the producers doesn't want everybody to see everything that is going on straight away as if they knew everything that happened there wouldn't be any point of going to see the actual film, so they came up with the idea of playing fast paced music and quickly switching from shot to shot.

One of the most important things throughout this film is the iron man suit, this is because the whole film is about this one character and therefore the producers are going to want to make this man look amazing as possible. the costume that he wears is so complicated and has so many different parts and features therefore this would be the main part of the film. As towards the end of the trailer you see more of tony in the costume and trying to work it, rather than just knowing him for him. The camera angles at around 1;43 in the film are very effective, this is when he is putting his iron man suit on the camera flows round to show the different parts as when his arms and legs are going in to the suit and it shows us real up close on how amazing that the device actually is. Throughout this scene the diegetic sound is very effective and important as in some cases it could set the scene and makes the trailer flow perfectly.

At the end of the trailer, it finishes off with iron man blowing a tank up and walking away extremely calmly, some parts towards the ending has more of a comedy side to it and not just action. This is because they want to attract as many people as possible and therefore involving comedy should mean that more people would be interested as it isn't just action as people may find that boring.
