IT Trailer Analysis

IT is a horror movie, at the beginning of the trailer, we see a long opening shot of the area, this doesn't indicate that this is a horror or scary movie as it loos like a friendly neighborhood and therefore nobody would suspect anything suspicious.Afterwards, it cuts to loads of kids playing and doing different activities with a voice over, however a lot of scary movie trailers do not involve somebody doing a voice over and that is used more in the romantic and comedy kind of films so the audience may think this is a little abnormal. at 0:17, this is where the audience get the first realization that something has gone and that is why the neighborhood starts to get suspicious as we see a close up shot of somebody that has gone missing and this makes the audience also wonder that there is more to the story than kids just playing and having fun...as it is a horror movie trailer.

From 0:39, when the little kid is running after the boat and it goes towards the drain, this music in the background indicates that something bad may happen as it is very tense and it is the type of music you would associate with adrenaline. The camera shot at 0:43 where the camera slowly moves slowly towards the boy and the music in the background gets faster and faster, this shows that there is something down there that is suspicious and the film may base the setting and the story line around something being down that hole otherwise it would be pointless of the producers to focus so much and so well on that one little bit.  Straight after the music gets deeper, we suddenly see a face pop up from under the drain and then it cuts back to the little boys facial expression to show how scared he is and how he is so innocent just looking for a paper boat and suddenly he has come across this little creepy face underneath the path, this will make the audience wonder questions such as who is it? where did it come from? what did it want and why is it in this specific neighborhood? this will make the audience want to watch the film so they can find out the answers to what they are thinking. The film is going along with the stereotypical horror film now including the music and the way the cameras are filming.

At 0:55 we see a shot of the drain and the water running down beside it, the gloomy day indicates negativity and after seeing a shot of the clown face it has come to the realization to everybody that this is going to be a negative, straight after this shot it makes a dramatic noise and we see the production title and information about who it is by etc, the 'terrifying novel' shows that it is going to get extremely scary compared to what we saw in the trailer and therefore makes the audience excited for when it comes out in cinemas.

One of the most things that people associate with horror films are scary haunted houses, at 1:00 in the trailer we see a point of view shot from the boy staring at the house it looks very old, neglected and just overall haunted, the windows have been broken into, fences are all bent in different directions and you can tell that this house has not been looked after and nobody lives there, and if they do it is something abnormal this will also make the audience weary of what is going on, this indicates that some of the film may be set in the haunted house and this means that it will involve dark jumpy scenes, at this point the audience will know if this kind of horror film is for them or not and will indicate if they want to go and see it or not.

After this, we see a lot of scenes switching extremely quickly, with the music getting more and more tense and more things happening and overall making your heart beat faster and this just makes people very excited, especially the people that love those type of films as this is the kind of content that they have come for and this is what they expect the actual film to be like if not better. Overall, the second half of the trailer is mostly just scenes getting quicker and quicker, along with the music. This makes the mood switch very fast from negative mood which was going quite slow along with the boys riding the bikes and the boat, too dark basements and haunted houses and creepy clowns/children talking in a very mysterious way, this film has alot of moments where the audience will be wondering what is going on and this therefore makes them want to see the film so they can see what happens at the end.
