Toy Story 3 Trailer Analysis

Toy Story 3 is an animated film, the audience for this film would be more the younger generation that enjoys these types of films, however it also may attract the older audience as this is the third film that has been released of toy story and at the time the audience may of been young when the first two films came out and still want to see the third even though they are much older and you wouldn't expect them to be the type of audience to enjoy the film, Toy Story is a film that is popular to all age ranges even though it is targeted for the younger ones.

At the beginning of the film it is a little bit of a throwback from when Andy was younger and playing with the toys, it is recorded from his mums point of view and this is to show the audience how long the toys have been Andy's for and how emotional it is going to be for him to have to eventually get rid of them. The recording goes through all different times that Andy has spent with Woody and the rest of the gang and all the memories they have together, in a way he treated them like a pet. The music in the background is also setting a mood, which wouldn't be portrayed as negative or positive, its just more calming and trying to be happy even though we know that Andy is going to have to give up his toys after this recording has finished. The way that the scenes change very quickly from shot to shot, this is effective because it shows how long they have spent together and even though they are just toys and a lot of people would think that it is childish to get upset about it, when you spend a lot of time with something it becomes very sensitive.

The point of view shot from behind Woody is effective because it makes the audience feel sorry for him as he is about to loose the person that means the most to him and he doesn't know what is going to happen next and where he is going to end up and who with, but as they are just toys they are unable to express there opinion so they have to go along with whatever he chooses to do, the slow sad music in the background also creates a negative atmosphere as it sets the mood.

Suddenly, it fades to black and then we hear a voice in the background and the music shots up and the production company "Disney Pixar" this is effective as the production company for toy story is very popular and makes a lot of money, this means that if the audience hasn't seen the first two films from toy story, just seeing that Disney has produced it they may automatically assume that it is going to be a good film and will be very successful.

After this, we are cut to a scene which starts off as singular characters talking in a close up shot, it then changes to a master shot, this is effective as it lets the audience see all facial expressions at the same time as some of them may be reacting differently to the others and it will be good to see them all at once which then moves to an birds eye view shot of all of the characters in a circle, this then gives us an overview to how many of Andy's toys are actually being taken away from Andy and the impact it is going to have. The lightening is also very clear at this point and we can clearly see all of the characters.

Every time information about the production company or when the film is being released the music changes majorly, it turns to upbeat and happy. This is because the producers want the audience to be excited to watch the film even if the actual film isn't in the greatest mood sets. After this, the wide shot of all the toys which looks like is based in a nursery turns to all screaming of happiness because of new toys are being taken there, this makes the audience not as worried as they think this might be good for Andy's toys and they are going to be making some more friends, as this would be better than being thrown out.

The next scene, things start to get more tense and more loud and dramatic. This is because we see from shot to shot of the children running in and just playing with the toys we see them sticking bits up there noses, running them over and all sorts. This shows what the film is going to mostly about, the toys trying to escape as they aren't going to want to stay in the nursery forever if they get treated like that. The shot changes are really effective as they change from long, wide and close up shots but so quickly its hard to notice they change but they want the audience to really notice everything that is going on even though it is happening all so quickly. However, later on in the trailer we see that they are trying to escape and trying so many different ways but they aren't really working, this shows the audience that there are going to many different scenes in the film of them trying new things and this may attract the audience as they are going to wonder how they do get out or if they even get out.
