Little Miss Sunshine Trailer Analysis
Little miss sunshine is a comedy film. At the beginning of the trailer, we are shown the production title which is fox, this is one of the first things shown because it may attract the audience as they know that this production company is very popular and makes very successful films.
The music in the background is what the audience would expect when watching these types of film, it isn't too slow but then on the other hand its also not too upbeat and fast to flow with the scenes and therefore it is perfect for the way that the trailer is moving. This is effective for the audience because it will give them an insight on what type of pace the film is going to be and what type of mood it is going to set. After the scene of the man and the boy talking, it fades out to add information about the film and the characters and producers, this is effective because it does this every so often throughout the film so it doesn't happen all in one go and its also not too quick so people have time to read, this is good because if the audience notice that a actor or actress that they have a interest in is starring it will make them want to watch the film more.
At 0:37 we are shown a range of different shots, including close up shots and master shots. The close up shots are effective because they show the different facial expressions and the conversation that is going on between them and the master shot is good because it shows all the family around the table at the same time and the way that they react to each other, this is effective because it shows the audience that they are just a normal family having a normal dinner. This might attract the type of audience that can relate to this family and relate to the way they live and the way that they bond with one another.
In the next scene we hear lots of diegetic sounds of all of the family members talking over one another, this is because of the topic that they are talking about is sensitive and they are trying to keep it on the down low so the little girl doesn't ask many questions as it isn't something that should be talking about round the dinner table, the camera shots are effective in this scene as it cuts from one to another to show the different people talking at different times throughout and the conversations start to get louder and this makes the audience think that what happened and what is going on and this might make them want to watch the film to find out the answers to what they have been wondering
"Freshness and Daring with a hilarious script "this shows that even if right now the conversation is deep and sensitive that it does get funnier and it starts to turn into more comedy jokes and scenes. The conversation at the dinner table starts to talk about the man falling in love with somebody, and the father starts blowing his nose, this diegetic sound is relevant because it shows that he is not interested in what he has to say as he doesn't agree with what the man that fell in love agrees with and therefore will try anything to get in between and stop it. The girl mentioned that 'that's silly' when the older man mention that he fell in love with a boy, this shows the audience that this film is going to have a range of different views about gay relationships and this could be a very controversial film. This also shows that this is different to society now as gay marriages and relationships are much more acceptable in society.
Towards the end of the trailer, the camera shots cut and in between mentions the name of which character is shown, this is effective because it gives a quick glimpse on what the characters are like and how they are going to be betrayed throughout the film and the facial expressions will represent them before the audience seeing the film overall.
At 2:05 we see a master shot again of all the family in the mini bus on the way to California. This is a scene that a lot of people would find humorous because it is an awkward silence and everybody looks bored or unhappy to be there, this shows the audience that something has happened before hand to set this negative mood in the car and therefore will want to watch it to see what happens, and then at the end we hear them say 'where's olive' and at the point the audience would realise this is going to be a very funny film because they have already forgotten the girl. The non diegetic music in the back ground is effective towards the end as it gets louder and more upbeat to change the negative mood into a positive mood.
