Where did the ideas come from? Our ideas for our 2 minute opening scene came from many different places. We spent a little while going through other peoples opening scenes on YouTube and from other blog posts and then we wrote down many different ideas on a bit of paper and then in the end we all decided on one. While filming we changed little parts of it as a team and we all thought of ideas together. We used little bits from a lot of other opening scenes but then put them all together to make one. How did you work collaboratively to share ideas? We worked collaboratively by putting all of our ideas together and using the ones that we thought were best, so we all used at least 1 of our ideas, some may be more if they were good which meant in the end we would have an idea of an opening scene that included all of our ideas but in different ways and using different techniques. Narrative Features In The Whiplash Trailer
Right at the start of the trailer the exposition was revealed. We see that the film is based in New York, the main character has a girlfriend and that he is interested in music. We then later find out that he is in the best music school of the country. This makes us think that he is a very good musician and he is following his passion. The development of the trailer is then revealed. There is a sudden appearance of jazz music which signifies the change between the exposition to the development.. This is when we find out that he doesn't think he is good enough to become a great musician. He then decides that he should break up with his girlfriend to focus on his music so he can become the best. Yet again the jazz music signifies the change from development to complication. This is when we see his teacher becomes violent towards him.
